Preparing for any AP exam is not easy, let alone one in English Literature and Composition. Here is my road map for success.
I would take a look at Lord of the Flies and Crime and Punishment because the two of them deal with issues such as people themselves being innately good or bad and why good people do bad things. Both of which would be relevant in a research paper like yours. Also you could use the Bible to take a religious point of view where God often tests the faith of his followers like in the tale of Job
When researching your question it was hard to find information that was not about spiritual influences. These were the best ones out of those that I found, however.

I would consider researching how different religions look at this question because I saw a lot of that while I was researching.
